Eurotech Receives 2M USD Follow-On Order for Catalyst TC Embedded Module for Homeland Security and Defense Application

Cross Match orders more embedded modules to support production of its handheld biometric identity device

Amaro (Italy) – April 16th, 2012 – Eurotech, a leading supplier of embedded technologies, products and systems, today announces Cross Match has issued a $2 million purchase order for the Catalyst TC module, which is used in its handheld device for homeland security and defense applications. The modules will be delivered over the next 12 months.
The Catalyst TC, based on the Intel Atom processor E6xx series, is a highly integrated and flexible embedded module that offers multiple communications, I/O, and multimedia capabilities with low power consumption in a small footprint.
“We have a need for more Catalyst TC units because we have seen an increased demand for our products,” said Shawn Mokhtari, Cross Match Technologies Senior VP of Technology. “Eurotech has been reliable and on time for the duration of our relationship, and we look forward to working with them as we continue to deliver our biometric identity solutions to the marketplace.”
The Cross Match product is a homeland security and defense solution that also offers optional 3G communications support and built-in wireless networking capability that allows field personnel to access remote databases as part of a biometric identity solution.

Eurotech: €1.2M order for Aurora HPC from German Research Centre Jülich


Amaro (Italy) – April 5th, 2012 – Eurotech, a leading company in embedded and supercomputing technologies, announces that it has received a 1.2 million euro order from Forschungszentrum Jülich, one of the largest research centres in Europe, for supply of a HPC (High Performance Computing) system of the Aurora family. Delivery is scheduled to take place within this year.
The Aurora HPC will be used within the scope of the EU-funded project DEEP (Dynamical Exascale Entry Platform), an innovative European response to the challenge of creating supercomputers capable of performing ExaFlops, i.e. a billion billion calculations per second, that is a thousand times faster than today’s fastest supercomputers.
The DEEP consortium, led by Forschungszentrum Jülich, proposes to develop a novel, Exascale-enabling supercomputing architecture that takes the concept of compute acceleration to a new level: instead of adding accelerator cards to Cluster nodes, an accelerator Cluster, called Booster, will complement a conventional HPC system and increase its compute performance. While the Cluster is an off-the-shelf component, the Booster will be designed and built by the DEEP project partners using cutting edge technology. Together with a software stack focused on meeting Exascale requirements, comprising adapted programming models, libraries and performance tools, the DEEP architecture will enable unprecedented scalability. In the DEEP consortium Eurotech will be the responsible to assemble and design the cabinets, racks and blades of the system.

Amaro (UD) – 5 aprile 2012 – Eurotech, azienda leader nelle tecnologie embedded e di supercalcolo, annuncia di aver ricevuto un ordine di 1,2 milioni di Euro da Forschungszentrum Jülich, uno dei più grandi centri di ricerca in Europa, per la fornitura di un sistema HPC (High Performance Computing) della famiglia Aurora. La consegna è prevista quest’anno. 
L’HPC Aurora sarà utilizzato nell’ambito del progetto finanziato dall’UE denominato DEEP (Dinamico Entry Exascale Platform), una innovativa risposta europea alla sfida di creare supercomputer in grado di raggiungere gli ExaFlops, vale a dire un miliardo di miliardi di calcoli al secondo, ovvero un migliaio di volte più veloci rispetto ai più veloci supercomputer di oggi. 
Il consorzio DEEP, guidato da Forschungszentrum Jülich, si propone di sviluppare un’innovativa architettura di supercalcolo di classe Exascale, che porti il concetto di accelerazione dell’elaborazione ad un nuovo livello: invece di aggiungere schede di accelerazione ai nodi di un Cluster, un Cluster acceleratore, chiamato Booster, integrerà un sistema HPC convenzionale e ne aumenterà la potenza di calcolo. Mentre il Cluster sarà un componente off-the-shelf, cioè disponibile sul mercato, il Booster sarà progettato e costruito dai partner del progetto DEEP con tecnologia all’avanguardia. Grazie anche ad un pacchetto software focalizzato sulla soddisfazione delle esigenze specifiche di una piattaforma Exascale, che comprende modelli di programmazione adeguati, librerie e strumenti di ottimizzazione delle performance, l’architettura DEEP consentirà una scalabilità senza precedenti. All’interno del consorzio DEEP, Eurotech sarà responsabile della progettazione e assemblaggio degli armadi, dei cestelli e delle schede del sistema.
