Eurotech:$1.7M Contract from Energy International to Power Digital Whiteboard Application in University Campus

Eurotech Partners with Energy International to Supply a Digital Whiteboards Solution for Announcements and Video Messages on University Campus

Amaro (Italy) – January 16th, 2012 – Eurotech, a leading supplier of embedded technologies, products and systems, today announces they have received a contract from Energy International for a total estimated value of 1.7M USD to supply the Eurotech display computer as the processing platform for digital whiteboards. Eurotech signed a 12-month agreement to supply the hardware and infrastructure for college dorm room digital whiteboards.
A state-of-the-art university will use the digital whiteboards in dormitories to provide students with university announcements, schedule changes, video messages and other information. Timely display of such messages will keep students informed of happenings that affect them on a real-time basis.

Parvus Awarded AS9100 Rev C Quality Certification

Compliance with Aviation, Space and Defense Quality System Requirements Ensures Customer Satisfaction

Amaro, UD – Italy, 20 December 2011 – Following its legacy of quality-certified electronics manufacturing and design, Eurotech Subsidiary Parvus Corporation announced today its successful certification to AS9100 Rev C. Encompassing all ISO 9001:2008 quality management requirements, AS9100 Rev C specifies additional requirements for aviation, space, and defense organizations. Parvus first earned its AS9100 Rev B Certification in December 2010 and elected to upgrade to Rev C to meet the industry’s newest and highest standards of quality. The new Accredited ISO registrar Eagle Registrations Inc. assessed Parvus and found it in full compliance with this globally recognized quality standard.

The quality management standard for the aerospace industry, AS9100 is designed to meet stringent, complex and unique demands of the defense and commercial aerospace industry. Additional requirements were added to the AS9100 Rev C standard to emphasize the importance of supplier selection, project management, risk management, configuration management and ensure better control of work transfers and critical items. Regular audits are conducted by an independent certification body to ensure that Parvus products are designed and manufactured using sound, repeatable processes and that customer satisfaction remain a primary concern.

rugged low-cost IP67 Ethernet switch targeting homeland defense applications, such as border security, disaster recovery, first responder vehicles, drug enforcement and other civilian mobile, tactical and/or outdoor applications subjected to extreme temperatures, shock, vibration, dust, rain, and/or physical impact.

Leveraging Parvus’ engineering heritage with rugged IP networking products for military vehicle and aerospace platforms, the DuraNET 10-10, is a lower-cost alternative geared towards civilian defense and mobile tactical / critical infrastructure applications. Without sacrificing reliability or performance, the product boasts a dust- and water-proof design with IP67 environmental protection that will appeal to more cost-sensitive commercial user applications that may not require MIL-STD compliance.

Featuring a robust mechanical design and extended temperature operation from -40ºC to +85ºC (-40ºF to +185ºF), the DuraNET 10-10 network switch provides five 10/100 plug-and-play Ethernet ports over rugged field deployable RJ-45 or M12 connectors in a sealed and fanless metal chassis designed for mounting to any machine or flat surface. With provisions for exposure to wide thermal ranges, shock, vibration, dust particles, and liquid immersion, the rugged DuraNET 10-10 combines proven and open-architecture PC104 Ethernet switch and vehicle-grade power supply components in a rugged package designed for maximum reliability under extreme conditions, including provisions for hazardous locations and potentially explosive atmospheres.

As an unmanaged Ethernet switch, the DuraNET 10-10 is designed to provide local area network (LAN) connectivity to IP-enabled equipment, such as onboard computers, cameras, sensors, monitoring devices, and command-and-control gear for situation awareness and information sharing. Requiring no configuration to operate, the device features five IEEE 802.3/u compliant (10/100mpbs) Ethernet transceiver ports and support for auto-MDI-MDIX network installation. Any of its five transceiver ports are flexibly designed to serve as an uplink. Support for auto-crossover, auto-polarity, auto-negotiation, and bridge loop prevention are all integrated. A non-blocking switching fabric provides excellent data transmission performance at wire speed.

Eurotech: founded the European Technology Platform for HPC ( High Performance Computing)

European industry and research centres join forces to create a European Technology Platform for High Performance Computing.

Amaro (Italy) – Barcelona, 10th November 2011- Major European suppliers of High Performance Computing (HPC) technologies, Allinea, ARM, Bull, Caps Entreprise, Eurotech , ParTec, ST Microelectronics and Xyratex associated with HPC research centres BSC, CEA, Cineca, Fraunhofer, Forschungzentrum Juelich and LRZ have decided to combine forces to create a European Technology Platform (ETP), building on the previous work of PROSPECT and Teratec.

The objective of the ETP is to define Europe’s research priorities to develop European technology on all the segments of the HPC solution supply chain. It will strengthen European competitiveness in HPC, a key capability for future research and innovation. The effort will be beneficial to a wide range of social and economic challenges. HPC is an indispensable instrument to resolve problems of the highest complexity that require extremely large and very efficient computational and storage capabilities for activities such as modelling natural phenomena (weather, climate change or epidemics), optimizing energy resources, researching novel materials and shortening engineering development cycles which would foster innovation across the region.

The ETP will be an industrial led forum that will propose a Strategic Research Agenda taking advantage of European industry strengths to increase the value created in Europe from future HPC systems. Currently the design of supercomputer solutions faces significant challenges such as management of the extreme parallelism experienced in HPC architectures or the reduction of the power consumption addressing these presents opportunities for European players to improve their position in the worldwide market.

To achieve these objectives the current consortium will set up an organization that will be open to any businesses, groups or individuals who have R&D activities in any aspect of HPC and are located in Europe. The goal is to bring together all the research forces in Europe including R&D activities of SMEs, European corporations, international corporations and research centres to benefit from their competences and to foster these capabilities by proposing an ambitious research plan to the European Commission.

The consortium will act promptly to create the ETP and to propose a Vision Paper. The ETP will prepare the Strategic Research Agenda seeking acknowledgement from the European Commission to provide inputs towards the Horizon 2020 program that will define the future European research objectives.

This initiative is an important step to encourage and strengthen the position of the European HPC industry. The impressive set of competences of the members gathered on this initiative show that Europe can be at the forefront of the HPC industry in the coming years if an ambitious R&D program is put in place. The ETP will provide the catalyst for such a movement and the impact will be a stronger European HPC industry that will create employment, added value and a stimulus for students and academic researchers in the area. Through this improved capability and capacity, HPC users will gain the ability to achieve new results in science and technology and to design more innovative products and services.

While the Everyware Software Framework (ESF) simplifies development and debugging of application software, hardware options allow OEMs and enterprises to choose the M2M platform that delivers exactly what their business environment requires.

Purpose-built platforms – Eurotech has hardware options for rugged environments, mobile applications, and space- and power-constrained devices available today, so developers can choose the specific hardware platform to meet the precise requirements of their application. From wearable computers like the Zypad BR2000, to intelligent gateway platforms and mobile access routers like the Helios and DuraCOR family, Eurotech offers a broad portfolio of hardware platforms for different M2M environments. The new DynaVIS 10-00 display computer, on display in booth #346 at CTIA Wireless, is ruggedized and targeted for transportation environments. All these hardware options are based on the Intel Atom processor.

Third-party hardware – Eurotech ESF platform resides on the Intel® architecture based-M2M Smart Services Gateway development kit, further expanding the pool of devices users have available to suit their M2M needs. The development kit offers a flexible platform for M2M application coding, which is reusable on other hardware platforms as necessary.

Software portability – Since ESF runs on multiple hardware platforms, developers write their application software once and can port the software to a different platform also running ESF. This capability extends the life of the software and means developers are reusing code to simplify the delivery of a specific application over many platforms. For instance, in a medical environment, the same data capture and display application can reside on a panel PC in an ambulance, on a device in an emergency or operating room, and on a wearable computer a doctor or nurse uses when visiting patients in recovery.
